"After the declaration of the pandemic in the country, the transition to online classes in universities and secondary schools began in mid-March. But the high effect was not achieved. The fact that both students and some of the teaching staff did not have a deep knowledge of information technology caused them to stay out of this procedure. All this gives us reason to say that we could not achieve the same results in traditional education as in distance education.
Education expert Elchin Efendi told Publika.az about this, Qadin.net reports.
He said that if in traditional education students mastered 85-90 percent of the lessons, in distance education this result is around 60-70 percent: “I do not think we will achieve successful results with distance education in the current situation. Because it is newly formed in our education system. Therefore, the Ministry of Education is currently taking appropriate steps and giving instructions. If the pandemic does not allow classes to start on September 15 and is remote, work is being done with teachers who are outside of information technology and have difficulty using online programs in order to avoid difficulties in this area. But, unfortunately, even if distance learning begins on that eve, there will be some shortcomings. I suggest that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies improve the provision of the Internet throughout the country, so that every family can join online education.
According to the expert, if two or three students study in each family, there will be some difficulties when each of those students joins classes at the same time: “Because they study in different classes and class schedules are different. In this case, there is a problem in that house and not everyone can join the class. From this point of view, the Ministry of Education should do some work. Every family in need should be provided with a smartphone or tablet so that the quality of lessons does not decline. There are some families whose financial situation allows them to take several tablets and join classes at the same time. But in some families this is not possible. "
Efendi noted that the main principle is to start classes in the traditional form from September 15, taking into account the shortcomings of distance education: “This year, admission to the first grades is also held. It is important that these students become familiar with class schedules and teachers. Therefore, if the virus starts to rise again in the period after the start of classes, then the classes may be suspended and start after mid-January 2021.
In any case, first-year students admitted to higher and secondary special education institutions will not be able to start classes from September 15. Because the entrance exams held by the Ministry of Education are not over yet and will be held next week. The results will be announced in late August. This suggests that the selection of specialties will continue until mid-September. If they take the documents to the universities and colleges where they will study by the end of the month, the classes can start in October.
