According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of new infections per 100,000 people in Sweden has dropped by 54 percent in the last 14 days.
Over the past month, both the average daily number of infections and the number of deaths in the country are declining.
Moreover, in other European countries, the number of infections has started to rise again after a temporary decline. Thus, the number of new infections in Spain, France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands has increased by 40-200 percent over the past month.
As Anders Tegnell, Sweden's chief epidemiologist, said earlier, these figures show that the country's coronavirus control strategy is "highly successful." According to him, the Swedish government has not officially imposed restrictive measures, but the country's residents have reduced the intensity of social contacts on their own initiative and have taken a number of precautionary measures. As a result, Sweden's policy has been as effective as that of other countries with strict restrictions.
