The authoritative English-language Mexican newspaper Pulse News Mexico published an article by well-known journalist Teresa Margolis entitled "Why Azerbaijan is at war with Armenia."
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Mexico issued a statement in this regard.
The article notes that the internationally recognized Azerbaijani lands have been illegally occupied by Armenia for 27 years and Armenia has refused to leave these territories, ignoring four UN Security Council resolutions calling for the immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied Azerbaijani lands.
Readers are informed that the Armenian armed forces have occupied the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh and 7 surrounding regions of Azerbaijan and about one million civilians have been expelled from their homes. The brutal occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenians is considered by the international community as a "planned ethnic cleansing".
Despite the declaration of a ceasefire between the two countries in 1994 and negotiations to resolve the conflict through international organizations, Armenia has repeatedly resorted to provocations and violated the ceasefire.
It is said that Azerbaijan is trying to resolve the conflict within the norms and principles of international law, as well as the territorial integrity of states, but Armenia has not taken any steps to resolve the conflict.
The article also notes that Armenia still occupies and exploits Azerbaijani lands, burns once fertile fields, engages in illegal activities in the occupied territories, and uses gold and other natural resources from those lands for 30 years.
The author notes that at a time when the world community is fighting against COVID-19, Armenia again resorted to provocation, violated the ceasefire in July this year, attacked the positions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and fired heavy artillery at the Tovuz region of Azerbaijan. It is noted that since that time, tensions on the front have been repeatedly provoked by the Armenian side.
The article also emphasizes that the Azerbaijani side has rightly decided to resolve the conflict, which for many years could not be resolved diplomatically, by liberating the occupied territories after 30 years of injustice, and will not stop until it completely liberates its lands from enemy occupation. It is also brought to the attention of readers that the Armenian armed forces fired on civilian settlements of Azerbaijan with ballistic missiles.
Over the past three weeks, the Azerbaijani army has liberated Fizuli, Jabrayil and Zangilan regions, as well as the border areas with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and it is said that Azerbaijan has won this war.
The author reiterates that the main reason for this war is the illegal occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, that Armenia has always been aggressive throughout this conflict, and that Azerbaijan is rightly trying to liberate its lands from occupation.
