Ayatollah al-Uzma Seyyed Said al-Hakim, one of the four great imitators of the Najaf Religious Center, one of the largest scientific and religious centers in the Islamic world, made a statement in support of Azerbaijan's struggle for freedom in Karabakh.
The statement expressed the concern of the leadership of the Najaf Religious Center over the events in the south-west of Azerbaijan and expressed condolences, especially in connection with the deaths of civilians. The statement stressed the importance of implementing the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on the conflict, in particular, expressed support for the full restoration of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
The statement also said that Marjiyat prayed for a just peace in the region and the world, ensuring a dignified return of all IDPs to their homes.
It should be noted that the Najaf Scientific Center is one of the oldest and most influential scientific and religious centers in the Islamic world. Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Saeed al-Hakim, who is considered to be a great imitator, is one of the four main scholars of the Najaf Scientific Center, now headed by the great Islamic scholar, Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Ali Sistani.
Given that the Najaf Basin, which is more than 1,000 years old, is a purely religious-scientific center and, as a rule, rarely addresses political issues, the Center's statement on Azerbaijan is an indication of the special importance attached by the Najaf Center to the Azerbaijani people's struggle for Karabakh.
