Today is the next anniversary of the occupation of the Gubadli region of Azerbaijan by the Armenian armed forces.
Armenians occupied the region on August 31, 1993.
Gubadli region, located between the Zangazur Mountains and the Nagorno-Karabakh Range, was established in 1933 as an administrative unit.
On the eve of the occupation, the population of Gubadli region was 29,903. At present, the population of the region is about 40,000 people (as of October 1, 2019, it was 38,289 people). The absolute majority of the population is in Sumgayit and Baku, in the Absheron region. As the majority of the region's population (about 64 percent) lives in Sumgayit, the Executive Power of Gubadli region, other executive structures, restored departments, enterprises and organizations are located in Sumgayit.
During the defense of the region, 283 volunteers died heroically, seven of them were awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
