The statement came from Simos Yoannu, the alleged "mayor of Marash municipality" in southern Cyprus.
"We will appeal to all relevant organizations and centers. The complete opening of the marathon could be the cornerstone of the Cyprus crisis and the end of an agreed solution. It is necessary to prevent the opening of this city immediately, "he said.
Turkish media reported that the city of Marash, which has been closed for 46 years, will be reopened by the end of this year.
Known as the "Nightmare City", Marash was declared a military zone by Northern Cyprus after the Cyprus Peace Movement and people living in the area were evacuated for security.
