The growth observed in the fish market this year is obvious. This is closely related to the growing interest in amateur fishing. Thus, the interest in white meat has increased compared to previous years. Given the importance of fish and fish products in the healthy diet of the population, this interest is understandable.
Chairman of the Union of Amateur Fishermen of Azerbaijan Afgan Aliyev said that as a result of strict quarantine rules and measures taken to combat illegal fishing in the country, the growth of fish in the country's natural water bodies is observed:
"The reason for the increase in fish is the quarantine applied in March, April and May, the moratorium on fishing from May 1 to September 1, as well as the strong fight against illegal fishing by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
At the same time, the development of aquaculture in our country, the creation of civil farms has affected the emergence of abundance in the markets. Preventing the import of synthetic fish nets into the country is another reason for the increase in the number of fish.
He noted that fishing has been allowed in the country since September 1:
"Currently, there is an increase in the number of fish exported to the country's markets. The price of fish has also fallen, mainly due to the introduction of local products on the market. However, there is a relative increase in the prices of imported fish and fish products.
Aliyev noted that although the development of industrial fishing in Azerbaijan has weakened since the Soviet era, this sector is currently experiencing a period of development.
