"Many studies show that the body's response to the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and therefore the severity of the disease may depend on the individual genetic characteristics of the human body. "Currently, the genomes of patients are being studied to determine the genetic variants of COVID-19 that identify the people most at risk of severe infection and whose genes are protected," the expert said.
According to Lebedev, the body's response to the coronavirus may depend on differences in the leukocyte HLA genes or mutations in the gene encoding the ACE2 protein. At the same time, the expert added that research in this area is ongoing.
