On August 18, Azerbaijani Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva, who was fined for attending the wedding of the son-in-law of former President Ilham Aliyev, son-in-law of President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Ramiz Mehdiyev, was reportedly suspended.
According to the press service of the Azerbaijani Ombudsman's Office, the reports do not reflect the truth:
"The ombudsman is currently at work, has not stopped working. We also process appeals received on a daily basis. Appeals are investigated in accordance with the law and sent to the appropriate authorities.
Both our employees and the ombudsman directly participate in online awareness-raising events, meetings and webinars. "
As for the non-updating of the information on the website of the organization, the press service said that no information was posted on the site last week due to the time-consuming process of translating the materials posted on the site.
