Day of Ashura

Ashura is the 10th day of the month of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri calendar. The Arabic translation of the word also means "tenth day." Imam Hussein , the beloved grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was tragically killed in the desert of Karbala with his close relatives and comrades-in-arms on that day in the year 61 AH (October 680 CE). These are some of the deeds of Ashura. Ashura was advised to stay awake last night. Whoever is fortunate enough to spend that night in Karbala and worship in the mosque on the tomb of Imam Hussein will receive a great reward. If a person stays awake tonight in his house or in the mosque of his city, he will be rewarded. On the night of Ashura, it is necessary to pray a lot, to remember the tragedy of the martyrs of Ashura, especially to remember the situation of the Ahl al-Bayt's children and women who were thirsty that night in Karbala, and to pray to God for forgiveness of their sins.

The prayers that are recommended to be performed on the night of Ashura are recorded in religious books. We present several variants of these prayers: Praying 4 rak'ahs with the intention of "I will perform the recommended prayer on the night of Ashura, by God abroad," and reciting Surat al-Ikhlas 50 times after the Fatihah in each rak'ah. After the prayer, say this prayer 70 times: “Subhanallahi wal-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illallahu vallahu akbar. And there is no god but Allah, and there is no god but Allah. Translation: “God is holy. Praise be to God. There is no god but Allah. God is omnipotent. To God belongs power and might. ” It is also recommended to say many salawat to the Prophet and his descendants after the prayer. This is called "Hazrat Ali's prayer". On the night of Ashura, it is recommended to pray four rak'ahs before dawn, recite Ayat al-Kursi 10 times after Surat al-Fatihah, Surat al-Ikhlas, Surat al-Falaq and Surat an-Nas 10 times after each Fatihah, and repeat Surat al-Ikhlas 100 times. It was recommended to read the pilgrimage of Imam Hussein on the day of Ashura. In particular, there is a great reward for reading the Ashura Pilgrimage. (This pilgrimage is large and included in prayer books). It is useful to pray a lot on that day, to increase repentance and forgiveness. It is good to recite Surat al-Ikhlas a thousand times a day and to say this sentence a thousand times: "Allahummal-an qatalatal-Hussein." Translation: "O God, curse the murderers of Hussein." Of course, all this is mustahab, it does not matter, and whoever is able can do it. On the day of Ashura, believers should not forget the tragedy of Karbala for a moment, be sad and rejoice. they can't. Imam Reza said: “Whoever remembers the misfortunes of us (ie the Ahl al-Bayt) and weeps over what has befallen us, his eyes will not weep on the day when all eyes weep (ie on the Day of Resurrection). Whoever does not sleep at night and sits in a meeting where our (Ahl al-Bayt's) issues are discussed, his heart will not die on the day when everyone's heart dies. " Imam Reza also said to a person named Shabib: “If you want to cry for any reason, cry for Hussein. For his head was cut off like a lamb. Along with him, 18 of his relatives were killed; they have no equal on earth. ” The following words of Imam Hussein  also indicate this: “I am a person who was killed by oppression. There is no believer who does not cry when he remembers me. ”It is not necessary to spend the day of Ashura in a mosque. A person can celebrate this day in his home. But on the day of Ashura, there is a greater reward for participating in condolence meetings in mosques and shrines. Provided that the meetings held in those places are held in a manner worthy of the true Imam Hussein and the martyrs of Ashura, free from superstition and superstition. The main purpose of celebrating Ashura is not to make people cry. Crying is also a form of devotion to the truth and solidarity with the oppressed, a form of protest against oppression. Let us not forget that in the days after the tragedy of Karbala, when the oppression of the Umayyad caliphs came to an end, the school of the Ahl al-Bayt survived thanks to the condolences of Imam Hussein. People who gathered at these gatherings to commemorate the event of Ashura and mourn the martyrs learned the goals of Imam Hussein  and the forces that were hostile to him. They heard descriptions of the colorful events that took place in the desert of Karbala, and learned from the martial arts school of the martyrs. During his lifetime, the Prophet Muhammad repeatedly announced the future martyrdom of Imam Hussein . Some of these hadiths state that the tragedy of Karbala will have a great ideological and moral impact on future generations. One of the hadiths says that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The assassination of Hussein will create a fire in the hearts of the believers that will never go out."
