1. Excessive saliva production
Although the cause of excessive saliva production seen in about 1 percent of pregnant women is not known exactly, it is estimated that hormonal changes that cause nausea and vomiting are responsible for this event. Another reason that is emphasized is the leakage of stomach contents into the esophagus, which is common during pregnancy. In this case, saliva secretion increases with the stimuli to the brain and the bicarbonates in the saliva prevent the esophagus from being irritated by excess acid.
It is known that excessive saliva production during pregnancy begins around the 6th week and passes by itself after the 14th week. In this case, there is no need for any drug treatment.
2. Change in mouth taste
Nausea, sensitivity to smell, and mood swings are typical symptoms seen in the first weeks of pregnancy. There is another symptom that is at least as common as these, but not much talked about, which is the change in mouthfeel. In fact, most expectant mothers describe this sharp taste change as "like poison". Although the situation in question does not indicate a serious problem, the exact cause has not been clarified. However, it is thought that hormonal changes, antibiotics used and vitamin supplements started with pregnancy may cause taste changes in the mouth.
3. Sweating excessively
Excessive sweating is very common in early pregnancy. The reason for this is that hormone levels start to rise rapidly and the body temperature develops due to the increase in blood flow. As the temperature rises, the body produces more sweat to cool down, thus facing the problem of excessive sweating regardless of the season. Although this situation will decrease over time, taking a warm shower every day, using cotton linens, and wearing loose and cotton clothes can minimize the negative effects of sweating on the person.
4. Increased need for sleep and fatigue
Many expectant mothers feel tired early in their pregnancy. The reason is, of course, hormonal changes. Due to the progesterone hormone, relaxation occurs not only in the uterus but also in all body muscles. This can cause the mother to feel tired and want to sleep all the time. On the other hand, a lot of energy is spent during the formation of the placenta, which will provide the nutrient and oxygen needs of the fetus. This is another important reason why the mother is constantly sleepy and tired.
