Parents should set a good example for their children when it comes to cell phones.
We present the proposals of Turkish psychologist Oznur Simav to keep children away from mobile phones.
It is no secret that the negative effects of technology on children are obvious from a physical and psychological point of view. To protect themselves from their negative influences, mothers and fathers must first set a good example in this regard. Parents who do not regularly pick up the phone after work and do not take their eyes off the phone and fingers on the screen despite the fact that their child is waiting for them all day are a bad example for their children: “Technology is not a nanny. Children need to communicate directly with their parents. This is exactly what modern children need. That's why it's important to value the little time you spend with your children. ”
At what age can a child be given a phone? Ö. Simav also answered this question:
- A child going to the first grade can be given a very simple mobile phone just to talk (without other functions)
- A child can write the number of 3-4 very close people who need to talk during the day
- Children, even young people, should not use the phone at school. Intense telephone communication hinders the quality of lessons and academic performance
- The need for a phone is a concern for the child's health, to keep in touch with parents living far away. If there are no extreme situations, if there is no problem with communication with the child, if there is no problem in communication between parent and child, there is no need for a phone
- The use of the phone often allows children to access websites that are not accessible. Therefore, parents should also pay attention to the rules of using the Internet
Ways to keep children away from cell phones
- Direct children to sports and social activities
- To enable them to acquire hobbies
- Pay attention to hand skills
- Instill the ability to ride a bike
- To create conditions for the development of creative imagination by various means
- To teach to play musical instruments
- Teach parents to help with household chores
- Most importantly, time is very valuable, set aside this value for children.
