Gubadli's brave hero - Aliyar Aliyev

 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev has today announced the liberation of the city of Gubadli.

Gubadli region was established in 1933, consisting of one city and 93 villages, with an area of ​​802 square kilometers.
Gubadli was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 31, 1993. Brave sons of Azerbaijan were killed in the battles for Gubadli.


Major Aliyar Aliyev is a National Hero of Azerbaijan and a participant in the First Karabakh War. He was born in 1957 in Gazyan village of Gubadli. When the Karabakh war broke out, Aliyar Aliyev voluntarily joined the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. First, he was appointed commander of the intelligence unit of the battalion, then deputy commander of the battalion for supplies. The battalion he organized was also known among the people as the "Battalion of Wrestlers".
Aliyev was especially distinguished when he captured the positions of Basharat, Susuz Dag, Suarasi, and on September 30, 1992, he led the battle in the direction of Lachin region. In May 1991, the village of Yukhari Cibikli in Gubadli, and on October 12, 1992, in the battles for the Topagaj-Basharat heights of this region, the regiment led by him inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.
A few days after the Khojaly genocide, artillerymen of the regiment led by Aliyar Aliyev overthrew Gorus without the order of their superiors, and Moscow and Yerevan media reported that 336 people were killed in the attack. In this regard, three days of mourning were declared in Armenia, and Aliyar Aliyev and his three fighters were sentenced to death at rallies in Yerevan.


On April 16, 1992, a 50-member sabotage group led by Karle, a Syrian Armenian nicknamed "Black Leopard", blew up the Lalazar bridge and attacked Gubadli's border villages to cut off communication with the regional center and seize strategic heights. As a result of intelligence information, Aliyar Aliyev and his warriors, aware of this and waiting for their way, surrounded them, killed 11 enemy soldiers, including their commanders, and exchanged their bodies for Azerbaijani captives.
On June 24, 1992, Aliyar Aliyev's fighters shot down three helicopters flying to bomb the center of Gubadli region. He took part in Operation Shurnukhu in August 1992.
In the autumn of 1992, Aliyar Aliyev and 40 volunteer fighters liberated about 40 villages of occupied Lachin from the Armenians within 4 days.
Aliyar Aliyev's last battle took place on October 3, 1992, two kilometers from Lachin. Battalion commander Aliyar Aliyev and his driver Alisadat Agayev died heroically in the battle for the "thorny field" height. He was buried in Gazyan village of Gubadli region.


Aliyar Yusif oglu Aliyev was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 301 dated November 10, 1992.
