Official statement on sewage in Pirshagi

Images related to the discharge of sewage into the Caspian Sea in the Pirshagi settlement in the Sabunchu district of Baku have been clarified. The Baku TV team investigating the matter was told that the Zabrat-Kurdakhani highway was flooded in 2000, after which Azersu OJSC and the local executive authority drew a line directly from the lake to the sea to regulate the level of Lake Zabrat.
The level of Lake Zabrat is regulated through this line. However, the discharge of sewage into the Pirshagi Sea without treatment poses a new problem. Deputy Chief of the State Ecological Security Service Ramal Bagirov told Baku TV that the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources has installed 17 modular wastewater treatment plants in the area since 2007.
At the same time, Azersu OJSC has carried out relevant work: “Unfortunately, this problem remains. The reason is the lack of a centralized sewage system. Let me note that this stream has been built since 2000. For 21 years, this stream has been regularly monitored, analyzed and researched. As a result, it was determined that this water contains fecal wastewater. Local executive bodies and Azersu OJSC have been informed about it. Shohrat Suleymanov, an official of Azersu OJSC, told Baku TV that there is no centralized sewage system in these areas: “According to the master plan of the Absheron Peninsula, a biological wastewater treatment plant was built in the Pirshagi basin in accordance with modern standards. Completion work is underway.
