Chairman of the German-Azerbaijani Society of Radiology and Neuroradiology, Doctor of Medical Sciences of the University of Cologne, Azerbaijani scientist Nuran Abdullayev appealed to people recovering from coronavirus. In an interview with Oxu.Az, the Azerbaijani scientist clarified some obscure points about the causes of a new mutation of the virus. According to him, another mutation of COVID-19 was found in South Africa, which is different from the new variant of the virus that spread in the UK: "Today, science takes a serious responsibility for mutation research in the United Kingdom and South Africa. Therefore, as in all countries of the world, Azerbaijan must pursue this mutation. The virus has been studied in South Africa, and a recent study has linked the formation of immunity in humans. N.Abdullayev said that the study revealed that about 50% of the population has immunity: "This is a very large number for the immunity that can arise among the population, and it also means naturally acquired immunity. However, the occurrence of a new mutation of the virus at such a time complicates the situation. The scientist also spoke about how a new mutation of the virus came into being. N.Abdullayev stressed that mutations known to science are being studied by medical specialists in connection with the virus:
It is thought to be an escape mutation that originated in South Africa. At the same time, science has identified the causes of this mutation. Although people who recover from the virus do not become seriously ill when they are re-infected, a new fight begins between the body's immune system and the infection. In this fight, the virus is forced to change itself in a certain way in order to overcome the immunity that already knows it. I emphasize once again that the virus is trying to neutralize the immunity formed against it.
Thus, changes occur in accordance with the escape mutation. This means that people who have been cured of the disease once in contact with each other will be infected with a new mutation of the virus this time, or people who have not been infected so far will be infected with a new mutation. The doctor of medical sciences believes that serious preventive measures should be taken in Azerbaijan in connection with the mutation of the virus, and public awareness work should be continued more rapidly. He also called on people recovering from the virus to isolate themselves:
"Those who recover from the virus must be more careful and responsible. They must protect themselves and isolate themselves as much as possible in order not to mutate the virus and worsen the situation in Azerbaijan. Otherwise, people who recover from the virus can not only cause serious damage to their health, but also lead to the emergence of new mutations. The danger is that the new infectious rate of the mutated virus will be different. This can accelerate the spread of the virus and delay its return to normal, regardless of the vaccine. "
