Nur Church, located near the villages of Tulu and Talalar in the Balakan region, is considered one of the earliest Christian monuments of the Albanian period. The monument is rectangular and consists of two parts. The first part is a 10-meter prayer hall, and the second part is the Zay Tower, built in the IX-XI centuries.
Balakan residents and historians are concerned about the neglect of the monument. Historian Akif Mammadli says that until about 20-30 years ago, the pillars of the Zay Tower, which gave the monument stability and beauty, remained. But now one of the pillars of the tower has collapsed and scattered around. According to the historian, the monument is believed to have been built in the 5th century. If archeological excavations are carried out here, it is likely that there will be another moon temple at the bottom.
The monument is currently in a state of disrepair and needs to be restored. In this regard, we appealed to the service for the protection of monuments of the Ministry of Culture in Balakan district. The monument's guard, Nizami Mahmudov, verbally told Baku TV that many of the monuments in Balakan needed to be restored. They have already appealed to the Ministry of Culture in this regard. Restoration of the monuments is expected to begin in the near future. Among them will be the Church of Light.
