Following Iranian threats, the United States has rejected plans to withdraw the Nimitz carrier from the region. The statement came from acting Pentagon chief Chris Miller, RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier, US media reported that the decision was made to relocate Nimitz, currently the only US carrier in the Middle East. Miller's remarks came amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran, as well as speculation that the Donald Trump administration could strike Iran before its January 20 term expires.
Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps aerospace forces, said that in the event of a military confrontation in the region, Iran would take the same measures against both US bases and the Arab countries where these facilities are located.
