On January 2, a group of Defense Ministry officers, participants of the Great Patriotic War, as well as family members of the National Hero paid tribute to the grave of the National Hero of Azerbaijan, Major General Polad Hashimov. The Defense Ministry issued a statement in this regard. At the commemoration ceremony, Honored Art Worker, President's personal pensioner, Colonel Abdullah Gurbani gave detailed information about the life and career of the National Hero.
It was noted that P. Hashimov was born 45 years ago in Vendam village of Gabala region. Since he moved to Sumgayit with his family, he received secondary education at schools No. 28 and 34 in Sumgayit. Then he entered the current Azerbaijan Higher Military School named after Heydar Aliyev to successfully pursue a career in the military, and successfully graduated from this special educational institution. Hashimov, who rose from platoon commander to the highest military rank of "major general", served in the frontline and made efforts to properly fulfill the orders and tasks set.
P. Hashimov was heroically martyred on July 14, 2020 while preventing enemy provocations in the direction of Tovuz region of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. He was posthumously awarded the honorary title of "National Hero of Azerbaijan" by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 9, 2020. Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Colonel Aydin Ayyubov once again expressed his condolences to the family of the martyr on behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and stressed the immortality and eternity of sons like Polad.
The martyr's brother Ilham Hashimov thanked the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense for the attention and care. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the tomb of the martyr on behalf of the Ministry of Defense, prayers were recited and it was noted that the Azerbaijani soldier was ready for the orders of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief at any time.
