The sale of plastic bags has been banned in Azerbaijan since today

As of today, the sale and distribution of plastic bags up to 15 microns thick to consumers in public catering and service facilities is prohibited. According to Gadin.Net, amendments to the Law on Environmental Protection have come into force.
The document was prepared in accordance with the "Action Plan for 2019-2020 to reduce the impact of plastic packaging waste on the environment in Azerbaijan" dated February 7, 2019. Low-thickness plastic bags play a greater role in environmental pollution because they are resistant to decay. According to the document, the import, production, trade, catering and service facilities of polyethylene bags up to 15 microns, as well as disposable plastic mixing rods, forks, knives, plates and cups are prohibited by entrepreneurs. The law will come into force on January 1, 2021 for polyethylene bags, and on July 1, 2021 for other disposable products.
