It should be noted that the foundation of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis was laid in late December 1989 during the destruction of the USSR-Iran border in Nakhchivan. On December 16, 1991, Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Heydar Aliyev, taking into account the importance of creating a union of world Azerbaijanis, declared December 31 the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
