Doctor: "If complaints about coronavirus last more than three days ..."

The doctor noted that the "ice glass" picture identified by computed tomography is not icing, crystallization, ice crystals. This is an image, a sign, and a term used by almost all radiologists years before COVID-19. According to him, the x-rays used in CT and X-rays (X-rays) pass easily through normal, air-filled lungs, and this is called transparency. Because normal lungs are a transparent environment for x-rays.

In some lung diseases, as well as COVID-19 infection, which causes changes in the lungs (if the virus spreads from the upper respiratory tract to the lower respiratory tract - small bronchi, alveoli, and then into the veins) due to inflammatory thickening of the bronchial walls, inflammation in the alveoli and other changes . If this process covers a small area in the lungs, that is, does not impede the passage of radiation, the lungs may look deceptively normal on X-ray: "The reduction in airflow in the lungs must be more than 20 percent so that it can be detected by X-ray.

CT scans show a small amount of fluid and inflammatory thickening in those alveoli because of the high sensitivity. Now let's see how it shows? These changes prevent some of the radiation from passing through the lungs, and that fluid and thickened parts absorb some of the radiation. As a result, the transparency we mentioned earlier is not clear, it looks blurry. It looks like frosted glass, not pure glass, and this is called the "glazed glass landscape." In other words, there is no icing or crystallization in the lungs! Figuratively so called! If the process grows and deepens, it already covers a larger area, and if the amount of fluid thickening in the alveoli and the number of damaged areas increases, then consolidation-X-rays and CT show intense shadows. The image of consolidation-intensive shadows is worse than the "icy glass landscape."
