Today is the birthday of Salatin Aziz gizi Askerova, National Hero of the Republic of Azerbaijan, journalist, correspondent of "Molodyoj Azerbaijan" newspaper. Salatin Askerova was born on December 16, 1961 in Baku in an intellectual family. In 1979, he graduated from secondary school No. 18 named after M. Mushfig in Baku, and in the same year entered the Azerbaijan Institute of Petroleum and Chemistry.
He later worked as a journalist. On January 9, 1991, on the way from Lachin to Shusha, he was surrounded by the Armenian armed forces near the village of Galaderasi on the 6th kilometer of the road, and his car came under heavy fire at close range. As a result, Salatin Askerova, a talented journalist, employee of the Molodyoj Azerbaijan newspaper and, finally, a proud daughter of Azerbaijan, was brutally murdered.
He was married and had a son. By the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 294 dated November 6, 1992, Askerova Salatin Aziz gizi was posthumously named "National Hero of Azerbaijan" He was buried in the Alley of Martyrs in Baku. There is a street named after him in Baku. One of the cruises in Baku Bay is named after him. A bust was erected at Tafakkur University and a memorial plaque was placed on the building where he lived. The nearby village of Shusha district is called Salatinkend.
