At today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis, the draft law "On renaming Sagiyan village of Shamakhi region of the Republic of Azerbaijan as Gunashli village" was discussed. The bill was announced by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on regional issues Siyavush Novruzov, Gadin.Net reports quoting Report.
He said that despite the fact that Shamakhi region is located outside the border line of contact, the name of Sagiyan village in its administrative territory has nothing to do with the Azerbaijani ethnos, national heritage, history, geography and life of the local population. The chairman of the committee noted that after consultations with the toponymy commission, it was considered expedient to name the village in the southern part of the region Gunashli in accordance with the wishes of the residents. He noted that the word Gunashli also means happy, joyful, happy and enlightened. The bill was sent to the Milli Majlis on the legislative initiative of President Ilham Aliyev. After discussions, the bill was put to a vote and adopted.
