Today is the birthday of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Aliyar Aliyev. He was born on December 14, 1957 in Gazyan village of Gubadli region. After graduating from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Physical Culture with honors in 1979, he worked as a sports teacher at the Dondarli village secondary school in the Gubadli region.
Our national hero has repeatedly won national, all-Union and international Greco-Roman wrestling competitions. Under his leadership, eight people became champions of the republic and the USSR, more than 10 masters of sports, winners of international tournaments, and Heydar Mammadaliyev became a world champion in wrestling. When the Karabakh war broke out, Aliyar Aliyev voluntarily joined the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. First, he was appointed commander of the battalion's reconnaissance unit, then deputy battalion commander for supplies.
On September 30, 1992, he led the battle in the direction of Lachin region. In the autumn of that year, he and 40 volunteer fighters liberated about 40 villages of occupied Lachin from the Armenians in four days. The last battle of the National Hero took place on October 3, 1992, two kilometers from Lachin. Battalion commander Aliyar Aliyev and his driver Alisadat Agayev died heroically in the battle for the "thorny field" height. He was buried in Gazyan village of Gubadli region.
