17 years have passed since the death of the architect and founder of the modern independent Azerbaijani state, world-famous political figure, national leader of our people Heydar Aliyev. On December 12, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Alley of Honors and the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev has laid a wreath at the tomb of the great leader. The national anthem of Azerbaijan was played. President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva also laid flowers at the grave of the Great Leader's lifelong friend, prominent ophthalmologist-scientist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva. Memories of well-known statesman Aziz Aliyev and professor Tamerlan Aliyev were also commemorated, and flowers were laid at their graves.
