The new height of Everest has been determined

The foreign ministers of Nepal and China announced a new summit of Everest in a joint ceremony. According to Gadin.Net, this was reported by RIA Novosti. According to the report, the countries agreed to jointly measure the height of Mount Comolungma three years ago. According to the research departments of the two countries, the new height of Mount Comolungma has been announced at 8848.86 meters. The agreement on joint measurement of Everest was reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Nepal last year.

The need for a new measurement came after a number of scientists claimed that the height of the mountain could be reduced due to the devastating earthquake in 2015. In April 2015, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake shook Nepal. The next day, Nepal was hit by a series of earthquakes, and about two weeks later a new earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale shook the country.

The two natural disasters killed a total of about 9,000 people and injured more than 22,000. In 2015, China unilaterally announced the height of Everest at 8,844.04 meters (8,848 meters is recognized internationally). This led to a disagreement with Nepal. Due to the difference in the height of Mount Everest, Nepal and China could not sign the border protocol
