Victory Day date changed in Azerbaijan - OFFICIAL

In response to Armenia's repeated provocations and military aggression, on September 27, 2020, the people of Azerbaijan went to war to end Armenia's nearly thirty-year policy of aggression and liberate our lands from the clutches of the enemy. As a result of 44 days of military operations, the people of Azerbaijan have won a historic victory and the territorial integrity of our country has been restored.
According to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On the establishment of Victory Day in the Republic of Azerbaijan" dated December 2, 2020, in order to perpetuate the unprecedented victory in the Great Patriotic War, it was decided to celebrate November 10 as Victory Day in Azerbaijan. At the same time, November 10 is the day of remembrance of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish Republic and a great figure whose name is engraved in golden letters in the history of the Turkic world. The national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev said: "Mustafa Kemal Ataturk is as dear and respected to you as he is to Azerbaijanis."
Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who loved Azerbaijan from the bottom of his heart and said, "Azerbaijan's joy is our joy, our sorrow is our sorrow," has a place in the heart of every Azerbaijani, and his memory is remembered with great respect in our country. Taking into account that November 10 is the day of remembrance of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Turkey, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has decided to change the date of Victory Day.
The liberation of Shusha, the pearl of Karabakh, dear to every Azerbaijani, on November 8 played a decisive role in the fate of the war, leading to the defeat of the enemy's political and military leadership and the cessation of hostilities. Taking into account the historical significance of the city of Shusha and its liberation from occupation, this unprecedented victory - Victory Day, which has become a celebration of the determination and strength of our people, is of great importance for the future development and prestige of our state.
