Adolfo, a senator from the Italian Brotherhood in the Italian Parliament and a member of the Italian Senate's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, spoke at an event titled "Peace in Nagorno-Karabakh: Diplomatic Ceasefire or Sustainable Peace" organized by Radio Radicale and the Vento & Associati think tank.
Urso said that as a result of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, a total of 1 million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons, including 250,000 from Armenia and 750,000 from Azerbaijani territories.
The statement came from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Italy. "Although the international community, especially within the OSCE Minsk Group, has developed a solution that includes the gradual return of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the provision of a corridor between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, as well as the status of Nagorno-Karabakh, unfortunately, Armenia "Armenia refused and was forced to implement this solution only as a result of the war," the senator said.
The Italian parliamentarian stressed that the recent war in the Caucasus is a dramatic consequence of the lack of peace. If Armenia had returned Azerbaijani lands and not prevented the return of Azerbaijani IDPs to their homes, war would not have taken place. "Azerbaijan is the right side in this conflict from the point of view of UN resolutions and international law," the senator said.
