Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the supply of drinking water to the city of Shusha, liberated by the victorious Azerbaijani army, has begun. According to the information given by “Azersu” Open Joint-Stock Company, in accordance with the special order of the President, the restoration of vital infrastructure, including drinking water supply systems is being carried out in the liberated territories, including Shusha.
In this regard, a group of specialists from Azersu OJSC was sent to Shusha and other liberated regions. Specialists examined the current state of water sources, main lines, warehouses and distribution networks. It should be noted that after the liberation of Shusha, the supply of drinking water to the city was completely stopped. Thus, when the enemy left the city, it also destroyed the main water pipeline that supplied Shusha with drinking water. In order to solve the problem of drinking water, the specialists of Azersu OJSC have started research work in Shusha. Initially, the drinking water supply system of Dashalti village was investigated. As a result of the inspections, accidents in the water supply system were eliminated and on November 12, 2020, the village was provided with water. At the same time, a water station was established in Dashalti village to temporarily supply Shusha with cars and water.
At the same time, the technical condition of the Small Kirs-Shusha main water pipeline with a diameter of 325 mm was inspected together with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Defense. As a result of shelling during military operations, major accidents were revealed at 12 points on the main water pipeline consisting of 9.4 km of steel pipes supplying the city with drinking water. Necessary technical equipment and materials needed to eliminate the accidents as soon as possible have been identified, as well as Azersu OJSC has sent additional engineers and specialists to Shusha.
For the unimpeded movement of the equipment involved in the emergency repair work, a road was built where possible along the route of the pipeline, and in places where the movement of equipment is not possible, the materials were transported by hand and repair work began. Emergency parts of the main water pipeline were repaired in the area with complex relief, forest and mountain conditions, and on November 25, 2020, water supply was provided to Shusha. Bahadur Kangarli, the head of the Planning and Design Department of Azersu OJSC, who was sent to Shusha, informed about the work done in the city. As a result of the work done, a large part of Shusha city was provided with drinking water. A generator will be installed in the warehouse complex to start the pumps that supply water to the highlands in terms of relief. In the past, along with the repair of the main pipeline, relevant work has been done at the intake facility located at an altitude of 1580 m above sea level at the foot of Little Kirs Mountain, and the volume of water supplied to the city from the source has been increased. Azersu OJSC also intends to take measures to restore another source of drinking water and the main pipeline supplying Shusha.
