According to the tripartite statement signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Russian Federation and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on November 10, Kalbajar region came under the control of Azerbaijan. This is one of the most beautiful corners of our country, as well as a region rich in underground and surface natural resources. EE Karstensky, a prominent chemist, analyzed the water of mineral springs in the Kalbajar region, praised the healing properties of Istisu and noted that it would be famous all over the world. “The Kalbajar region is really rich in mineral thermal springs. The most popular are Istisu and Tutgun mineral-thermal water basins. The statement came from Ali Aliyev, head of the National Geological Survey of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, in an interview with Media.Az. According to him, the Istisu mineral-thermal water basin includes local springs: Upper Istisu, Lower Istisu and Keshdag. At the same time, the Tutgun, Garasu, Mozchay and Goturlu rivers of the same name flow into the Tutgun thermal water basin. Aliyev said they were all in a single tectonic-magmatic activation zone.
The depth of thermal groundwater is 30-600 meters. "As for the mineralogical composition, they are mainly hydrocarbonate, chloride and sulfate-calcium waters. They also contain boron and bromine, which have special healing properties. In the 80s, a large resort and a mineral water plant were built in the Istisu spring. Today, they are also suitable for the creation of resort and sanatorium complexes, "said a representative of the Ministry of Ecology. According to him, during the Soviet era, the resort and sanatorium complex received 50,000 people a year. “As for the plant, it produced 800,000 liters of mineral water per day. By the way, all this was destroyed by the invaders. They caused a lot of damage to this field. "After the liberation of the Kalbajar region today, we will restore everything from scratch," Aliyev said. He noted that the mineral water of Istisu is a natural resource of Kalbajar, which can bring great benefits to the regional budget.
The mineral reserve base of thermal waters is estimated at $ 5 billion (AZN 8.5 billion) per year. "If we used this potential, we would make a great profit. "Armenia violated all international laws and exported large amounts of mineral water during the occupation of the Kalbajar region," he said. According to him, Istisu differs from other sources in terms of gas and chemical composition. "These waters have a healing effect on the human body. These waters are compared with the thermal-mineral springs of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic in terms of healing properties. This is true, ours is not far behind. In Istisu, the water temperature can reach 74 degrees on the surface and 90 degrees at depth. At the same time, the total amount of minerals in one liter of water is between 2-7 grams, "he said. In the end, the representative of the Ministry of Ecology noted that Kalbajar is a natural museum. In addition to thermal waters, there are more than 100 springs in the region
