Aghdam region has already been liberated from Armenian occupation. This happened on the basis of a trilateral statement on Karabakh signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia on November 10. Thus, according to the statement, Aghdam region will be handed over to the Republic of Azerbaijan by November 20, 2020.
It should be noted that Aghdam was occupied by the Armenian armed forces on July 23, 1993. The relief of the region with an area of 1150 square km is mainly plain, partly mountainous. Armenians managed to occupy 846.7 square kilometers of the territory of Aghdam region, ie 77.4 percent of the total area. The district has a population of 202,200. At present, the IDPs live in different cities and regions of the country. Before the occupation, there were 54 medical institutions and 79 cultural centers in Agdam. In 2008, Lonely Planet magazine called Agdam "Caucasian Hiroshima". In 2010, Al Jazeera listed Agdam as a "city of spirits."
