A list of our historical names in ancient maps and other sources is being prepared. Work is now underway to determine those historical names and their correct spelling. Doctor of Historical Sciences Gasim Hajiyev said that Armenians not only destroy our monuments, but also change and appropriate our toponyms. Preparations have begun for the identification of Armenianized Azerbaijani toponyms in the liberated territories and the return of Azerbaijani names to them.
According to the deputy, vice-president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli, the institutes of Linguistics, History and Geography are already working in this direction. The academician added that when determining new place names, it is proposed to name both historical toponyms and places associated with the heroism of the Azerbaijani army in the Great Patriotic War and the signs of the new history.
