Putin's decree on peacekeepers stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh - PHOTO

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree on ensuring peace in Nagorno-Karabakh. The document was published on the official information portal.

According to the decree, a military unit of the Russian Armed Forces with up to 1,960 servicemen will be sent to Nagorno-Karabakh for five years. If Azerbaijan and Armenia do not express their intention to suspend the agreements reached six months before the end of the relevant five-year period, their stay shall be automatically extended for subsequent five-year periods. The peacekeeping contingent will be deployed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, along the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. The Russian President also instructed the Defense Ministry to rotate Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh at least twice a year, and to change military equipment if necessary.
