Sergey Markov: "Armenian troops could no longer fight"

"The Armenian army, which is no longer able to fight against the Azerbaijani troops, has asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan for permission to surrender." Sergei Markov, director of the Russian Institute for Political Studies, told Vestnik Kavkaza. "The deplorable situation of the Armenian army, the military defeat led to such a decision by Pashinyan.
After the capture of Shusha, the Armenian troops were, in fact, besieged. Therefore, Pashinyan surrendered. He said he did so at the request of the army, because the military said they could no longer fight and that military operations should be stopped. Markov said that such a result of the war opens up good prospects for a peaceful solution to the conflict: "Peace will come to the region. "Azerbaijan will fully restore its sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh." Markov stressed the importance of opening relations between Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan. He said Russia would play a guarantor of security in the region.
