French President Emmanuel Macron has said he understands Muslims' feelings about the cartoon scandal.

"I understand the feelings of Muslims about the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, but the government is not behind their publication, these issues stem from free and independent media that has nothing to do with the government," Macron told Al Jazeera.Macron also added that the meaning of his words is distorted and he does not support the publication of cartoons.
