Putin's proposal to NATO

Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to declare a moratorium on the deployment of medium- and short-range surface-to-air missiles in Europe.

This is stated on the official website of the Kremlin.

The Russian leader said that the Russia-US agreement on the abolition of medium- and short-range missiles (INF) was important for Europe, but the withdrawal of the United States from it was a big mistake.

Putin noted that in accordance with the mutual steps of the union, the Iskander-M complex promises not to deploy 9M729 missiles in Europe.

He offered to check the compliance of 9M729 missiles in the Kaliningrad region, Mk-41 missiles and Aegis Ashore complexes with INF parameters at US and NATO bases in Europe.

We call on all interested countries to seek schemes to maintain stability and prevent missile crises in a "world without the INF Treaty," as is the case in the Asia-Pacific region. We are open to partnership in this direction. "

The missile contract was terminated on August 2, 2019.
