Scientists at the University of South Florida Public Health have developed a vaccine to help Alzheimer's patients with untreated and fatal dementia.
According to Qadin.Net, this was reported by REN TV.
According to the report, pre-clinical trials have already been completed.
Initial tests showed that the drug was safe and could cause an immune response to the formation of hard deposits of amyloid plaques. It is believed that this process causes the death of nerve cells, which leads to dementia.
It should be noted that so far tests of similar vaccines have not been successful. Thus, when one of the drugs was tested, the patients developed inflammation of the central nervous system.
The new vaccine should not stimulate an excessive immune response.
The experiments were performed on laboratory mice that have an analogue of Alzheimer's disease. The researchers found that the vaccine slowed down memory loss in animals.
