What was discussed about Karabakh in the UN Security Council?

The UN Security Council discussed the importance of ensuring ceasefire control in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya, who chaired the Security Council in October, told reporters about the results of a closed-door meeting on Nagorno-Karabakh, TASS reports.

"Currently, it is necessary to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire, which is the most urgent issue, because the relevant agreement was reached, but not implemented. The main issue is how to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire, "he said.

"Of course, this issue was discussed during the meeting, and the Council came out of a common position," Nebenzya added.

At the same time, he noted that sending a UN observer mission to the region should have a special mandate of the Security Council, and it is not a quick process:

"There were reports that the Russian Defense Minister was discussing with his counterparts in Armenia and Azerbaijan how this control could be exercised."

The diplomat did not rule out that the observation could be carried out by the OSCE mission: "It is still questionable who will perform what position there."
