Today is the 29th anniversary of the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.
As a result of the historical conditions created by the collapse of the USSR in the late twentieth century, Azerbaijan has regained its independence, Gadin.Net reports.
On October 18, 1991, the session of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan adopted a historical document - the Constitutional Act on State Independence.
At that time, 258 out of 360 deputies of the Supreme Soviet voted in favor of the act, and those who remained on the ground either did not attend the session or voted against it. The Constitutional Act states that the independent Azerbaijani state is the legal successor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which existed in 1918-1920. The Constitutional Act consists of 6 chapters and 32 articles.
The issue was discussed in a nationwide referendum on December 29, 1991, and 95 percent of the population voted in favor of the country's independence, sovereignty and independence.
After the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence, laws on the national flag, anthem and coat of arms were adopted.
October 18, 1992 has been celebrated as a holiday in Azerbaijan, but it is not a non-working day.
