As reported, a telephone conversation took place today between Jeyhun Bayramov and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the initiative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov briefed his Russian counterpart on the latest tensions in the region.
He said that at 1 am last night and then at 8 am, the Armenian armed forces had prepared their missile systems in the area bordering the occupied Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan to fire on Azerbaijani territory, and that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had used these missile systems as a legitimate target. Sergei Lavrov, who was killed in preparation, was brought to his attention.
The Minister stressed that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are acting within the right of self-defense and in order to protect its civilian population, as well as the civilian population and important infrastructure, including the cities of Ganja and Mingachevir, taking into account the recent missile attack by Armenia.
Thus, another human tragedy was prevented and the lives of many Azerbaijani civilians were saved.
The Minister noted that the responsibility for the escalation of the situation lies entirely with the political and military leadership of Armenia.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed serious concern over the loss of civilians.
He stressed the importance of observing the humanitarian ceasefire agreed during the Moscow meeting. He also stressed the importance of establishing a monitoring mechanism for the observance of the humanitarian ceasefire between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
