In Denmark, the mass extermination of 2.5 million otters has begun after at least 63 farms in the north of the country were found to be infected with animals.
Qadin.Net reports that this was reported by rg.ru.
Specialists of the Danish Veterinary Service have begun destroying otters infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The agency said that farm owners within a radius of eight kilometers from the infected area should vaccinate the animals themselves.
Officials say the period could last several months, depending on the degree of infection. The destruction of the otters was accompanied by an incident.
The Associated Press quoted a local police station as saying that one of the farmers did not allow authorities to enter the area, so experts had to break the lock on the door.
In addition, law enforcement officers raided the demonstrators gathered around the two farms. Experts are trying to understand how otters are infected with the coronavirus and the possibility of the deadly disease infecting humans. Infection of some animals with the virus may also be from workers who have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
