Matthew Bryza: "Azerbaijan has every right to liberate its lands from occupation"

Azerbaijan has every right to liberate its occupied territories.
This was stated in an interview with Region Plus by Matthew Bryza, former US co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and former US ambassador to Azerbaijan.
"There are four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993. It calls on Armenia to leave the occupied territories of Azerbaijan immediately and to cease hostilities. In 1994, hostilities were indeed stopped, but Armenia has not yet left. UN Security Council resolutions are the highest manifestation of international law. Therefore, today Armenia is outside international law and Azerbaijan has every right to return its occupied lands, "Bryza said.

According to him, it is enough to look at US policy and even the recent resolution of the House of Representatives to be sure. However, the resolution was put forward by congressmen from California, where the Armenian diaspora is strong.

"In this resolution, Azerbaijan is accused of aggression, but not of violating international law or illegal actions. I think that says it all, ”Bryza said.

Matthew Bryza is currently a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. An extensive interview with him can be read in a special issue of Region Plus magazine dedicated to Azerbaijan's counter-offensive.
