Russian and French Presidents Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron discussed the escalation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh. The leaders of both countries called on the sides to exercise maximum restraint and restore the ceasefire as soon as possible.

The telephone conversation was initiated by the French side.
"The aggravation of the situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone has been thoroughly discussed. Serious concerns were expressed about the ongoing large-scale combat operations. "Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron called on the parties to immediately restore the ceasefire, reduce tensions and exercise maximum restraint," the Kremlin press service said in a statement.
The presidents of both countries said there was no alternative to resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis by political and diplomatic means.
