Due to the similarity of symptoms, COVID-19 should be treated as a poisoning that causes an increase in free iron levels in the blood.
According to Izvestia, such a proposal was made by specialists of the Emergency Medical Hospital of the Scientific Research Institute named after I. Canelidze in Russia. Their claims are based on the hypothesis of China's Sichuan University of Science and Technology, as well as Yibin University.
The researchers said there was no evidence of erythrocyte depletion or elevated iron levels during COVID-19. However, it can be detected using existing clinical and laboratory signs.
"If this is confirmed, COVID-19 can also be treated with free iron cleansing," he said.
