The man who ate too much marmalade had a heart attack

A worker from Massachusetts, USA, was heartbroken because he ate too much marmalade made from licorice.
This information was published in The New England Journal of Medicine.
The 54-year-old American, who loves fruit marmalade, reportedly switched to sweet licorice candies two weeks before his death and began consuming one and a half cans a day.
He suddenly fainted while eating at a fast food restaurant. Doctors determined that the man's blood contained dangerously low levels of potassium. According to them, this caused a heart rhythm disorder.
The man died at the hospital a day later.
According to medical experts, even a small amount of licorice can increase such pressure. Thus, the glycic acid in licorice root has the ability to critically reduce the body's reserves of potassium and other minerals.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned that consuming 55 grams of licorice a day for two weeks, especially in people over the age of 40, can lead to arrhythmias and death.
