Warning from the professor: "If this is the color of your blood ..."

You may feel low oxygen levels from some of the symptoms in your body. This issue has been on the agenda recently, especially due to COVID-19.
Turkish professor Muhammed Emin Akkoyunlu said that the lack of oxygen in the blood manifests itself in various ways. Explaining the relationship between blood color and low oxygen, the professor noted that blood color and brightness vary depending on the level of oxygen:

"For example, when you have a heart attack, there is a blood clot in your heart, you feel pressure and fatigue in your chest. This is a sign of a lack of oxygen in a particular tissue or organ.

In the legs or arms, the arteries that carry oxygen, called arteries, become blocked, which can lead to bruising in that area.

If there is too much oxygen in the blood, that is, if the blood is saturated with oxygen, it will appear bright red. However, if the blood is not saturated with oxygen, that is, if the amount of oxygen is insufficient, it will appear dark red. In fact, it is oxygen that gives the blood a bright color. It is a contrast of partially bright red and dark red blood, which also gives color to the fingertips and lips.

The expert said that some signals in the body indicate the level of oxygen:

"If the color of our lips, nails and fingertips turns purple, it means that there is a lack of oxygen in this area. Lips and fingers are especially important to us. Although these areas are the outer parts of the body, they are the first to show a general lack of oxygen.

For example, when you go in and out of very cold water, your arteries contract to increase your body temperature. There is not much blood flow to the hands and lips, and as the oxygen decreases, the blood begins to darken. It is normal and temporary for all these symptoms to occur when you have a cold, but under normal conditions, if you do not have a cold, if you have a dark complexion on your lips and fingers, there is a problem with oxygen delivery or blood circulation. In this case, be sure to consult a doctor. "
