The UN Secretary General has called for a global ceasefire by the end of the year
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a global ceasefire by the end of this year.
According to Qadin.Net, this was reported by Intefax.
"When the pandemic broke out, I called on all countries for a global ceasefire. "Today, I appeal again to the international community to give a new impetus to the implementation of this call by the end of the year," he said.
Guterres said he had 100 days to reach his goal.
He said his call for global peace in March was backed by 180 UN member states, as well as religious leaders and a number of armed groups.
The UN Secretary-General stressed that there are obstacles to achieving global reconciliation, but said there were several reasons for hope.
Guterres stressed the need to start peace talks in Afghanistan, the peace agreement in Sudan and the ceasefire in Idlib (Syria). He called on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to resume talks.
