Azithromycin, an antibiotic used to treat coronavirus infection, can cause a heart attack if taken with other medications.
According to JAMA Network Open, scientists from the University of Illinois came to this conclusion after their research.
Experts analyzed data from 44 million patients taking azithromycin. It has been found that taking this antibiotic with drugs that affect the heart's electrical impulses (antihypertensive drugs, antidepressants, anti-malarial drugs) increases the risk of cardiovascular disorders by 40%.
Scientists have shown that heart failure, dizziness, palpitations and heart attacks are the consequences of this.
Earlier, American cardiologists called on doctors to be careful when prescribing "Chloroxine" and "Azithromycin" with the risk of heart failure.
