Justice and Development Party (AKP) Kocaeli MP Cemil Yaman married 1,500 people to his son Hussein Yaman in Kocaeli's Dilovasi district, despite a ban by the Interior Ministry.
The wedding, which was attended by Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz and municipal officials, lasted for hours, Qadin.Net reports quoting Turkish media. Although forbidden at the wedding, fried, chicken and Ashura dishes were served.
Commenting on the issue, the chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Kocaeli district Harun Ozgur Yildizli criticized the MP:
"When it comes to celebrating a national holiday, those who find a thousand excuses not to attend violate the ban by inviting thousands of people to a wedding. The mindset that limited August 30 due to the coronavirus is getting married in Kocaeli today. Do these bans apply only to non-AKP members? Does the immunity of AKP members apply to coronavirus? It's incredible. "
It should be noted that August 30 is celebrated as Victory Day in Turkey.
It should be noted that since July 1, weddings, engagements, henna ceremonies and similar ceremonies have been banned in 14 provinces of Turkey. However, since last week, the ban has been extended to 14 provinces across the country.
