As of today, all Russian-language schools in Ukraine are taught in the state language. At the same time, schools for other national minorities whose languages are official in the EU will continue to operate in their own languages for another three years.

Thus, the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in 2017 provides for the transfer of secondary schools to the Ukrainian language of instruction. Then, on January 16, 2020, the parliament adopted a new law, which detailed the rules of transition to the Ukrainian language. According to the Ministry of Education and Science, there were 125 Russian-language public schools and 43 private schools in the country at the end of the school year.
Russia has called on the international human rights institutions of the UN, the OSCE and the Council of Europe to adequately assess the Ukrainian government's performance in discriminating against the Russian language.
